Hello guys.

Just looking for some more information on how different karting clubs operating in the UK keep check on the tyres that people run in control classes e.g Prokart and cadet classes.

Where I’m racing at the minute there is strong suspicion that certain people are prepping their tyres with softener or other lubricants but our club has no means to test for this and enforce it.

Does anyone know the regs on using a tyre sniffer and where I could possibly buy one to donate to my club to help enforce this rule.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

I remember reading about "tyre sniffers" and alike yeaaars back. Not sure they are still a thing?

Our club currently has an online scrutineering system in place in which you log on with your tyre bar codes. Then every so often your tyres will get physically checked and marked. You are allowed 3 sets per season.

So unless people are managing to change the barcode, using a softener etc won't probably be worth it, as you have to make the tyres last.

I think Covid has stopped most of the physical scrutineering in many places. But I guess if people really want to cheat then they will....sadly.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for your reply.

Interesting to see how your club does things, I will put this forward to my own club if they don’t want to go down the tyre sniffer route.

Do you have any info on other clubs regulations regarding tyres?
The more ideas the better really.

Thanks
