Hi just brought my first kart seems to be running a bit rich and killing plugs any advice on mixture and plugs greatly appreciated please

Kart is a rotax max 125cc

If you post which track you're testing at and the level of driver you are then someone can advise on jetting etc.

If its oiling up plugs its probably because you're at low revs too much or too high on the jet...sorry can't be more specific on jets but leave all the jetski stuff to my mechanic and team.boss...lol

Thanks for the reply we havent actually got to a track yet so it maybe that we are running on low revs maybe i need to pluck up the courage to get to a track qnd meet and speak to people for a bit more info

Remember 2t kart engines aren't designed to tick over so if you're leaving it running on a stand then don't worry, shouldn't be doing that so expect it to foul the plug.

They can and will foul plugs even on the sighting lap when at low speed at the start of the race, trick is to clear the plug by either choking the fuel line (iame) or clearing the plug with revs on a float carb such as those used in rotax

Oh thanks for that bit of info maybe is my fault then when running it up on the stand doesnt help

That's why you hear all the zing zing zing zing zing zing zing of the engines being warmed up on the stands in the paddock then cut dead before they're at constant low throttle, so thr plug is clean(er)

That makes perfect sense now to me maybe i needed it in idiot terms lol thanks again for that can i ask what plug you use in your kart please

So some basic fuel mis advice. The mix needs to be around 120ml of Oil to 5 ltr of Unleaded fuel.

Make sure the engine is running around 55 to 60 deg C when on track. If t a cold day then put the flap on the Rad down or add some tape to the rad. The heat of the engine effects the jetting.

Just check the carb has a jet in it as if you have bought second hand they might have removed the jet. Stupid I know but there a few Idiots out there.

Make sure you push hard so it revs out on track. DONT rev the nuts out of it on he stand with no load on the axle. Just apply the brake slightly.

Don't be sacred to ask at the track. Just explain you are new to the sport.

Where are you testing ?
