Hey all,

Please could someone confirm the maximum rear track width for mini max?

Do the wheels have to stay outside rear bumper profile?

And, do side pods have to remain inside theoretical line between outside of rear and front wheels?

Cheers

Sorry for the late reply. Welcome to the forum!

Maximum track width is 1400mm.

See blue book - "16.4.2. Overall width โ€“ All classes, unless specified in Class Regulations Maximum 140cm."

You can also see page 401 of the bluebook for the drawing.

However, as long as you keep the outside edge of the rear wheels inline or outside of the sidepods you'll be fine. That's my understanding racing at club level anyways. I have heard of people using shorter side pod bars and then an adjustable rear bumper, not sure on the legal aspect of it all though.

See the Gold Book and Blue Book here:

Adam,

Thank you ever so much. I really appreciate that advice!

I swatted over the gold book and couldn't find it! The blue book! Of course. Lol!

Thanks very much for your help mate.

No worries at all fella, most welcome.

You find the "main" rules and regs in the blue book and then the class specific stuff in the gold book. It is a pain, I find myself backwards and forwards between books quite alot.

To help you measure your track width, mark 86mm from the end of the axle with a pencil. Run some electrical tape round the 86mm mark. Measure from the 86mm mark/edge of tape to the hub:

30mm = 1400mm
25mm = 1390mm
20mm = 1380mm - I find myself using this 90% of the time.

If you are running 180mm rear wet rims and standard otk rear hubs:

45mm = minimum allow rear width on my chassis.

I'm using a genuine 1030mm OTK axle and standard rear hubs.

The more narrow the rear width the more rear grip you'll get. The wider, the less rear grip you'll get.

Adam, I can't thank you enough. That's going to make life so much easier. I'll get out and play with the rear axel tonight. There's a lot to learn in a short space of time!

With setup 50% learning trackside. 50% learning in the workshop. That's what I found anyways! Need anymore help, just post! ;)(y)

Not meaning to revive a thread, however I believe it's useful to keep info in one place. Adam - If you'd prefer I create a new thread, let me know

Last time out at Red Lodge, we fell foul of the wheels inside bodywork after switching to wets.I did triple check before we went out and even had it checked, but whilst out on track it moved and we were no longer compliant. I do have some axel spacers which in theory would have saved us but I wasn't sure what space was needed.

Found the diagram in the blue book which took some digging to get it:

wheels.png

17.10.1. Under no circumstances be located either above the plane through the top of the front and rear tyres or beyond the plane through the external part of the front and rear wheels (with the front wheels in the straight ahead position). In the case of a โ€œWet Raceโ€ side pods may not be located outside the plane passing through the outer edge of the rear wheels.

We are running an OTK, not exactly sure what length axle but we have standard (90mm?) hubs. In the dry we run the hubs as far in as they go.

As I am preparing for our next event, I thought I would measure from the hub face to the outer edge of the tyre of a wet tyre and dry tyre. I measured 115mm for the wets and 150mm for the drys, indicating a need for 35mm spacers. Does this sound right? I have measured where the axle is taped (to mark dry) and where the hub is sat now, and it was only 30mm.

I am also considering, instead of the spacers, getting some of the 'pegged' keyways as an alternative to remembering the spacers but would still like to know if I am moving XXmm.

Need to clear the rear bumper in the wet as well

We don't move the hubs in at the rear for the dry and I like rear grip, no frontnall rear and still keep the rear track about 1397, in the dry move it in slightly and make sure it's outside the pods, then adjust the rear bumper to suit
