Hey, new to Karting and looking for some advice on magnum clutch settings..
l recently put together a cadet kart for my 10 yr old with a Venom gx160 Race engine / magnum clutch. Took the wee man up to track at the weekend for a test / practice session, kart went ok but as he is fairly new to Karting was taking it easy to start, Kart sounded pretty rough when he was taking off (lot of banging) and whenever engaging throttle after coming off.. was advised by a couple of folk that clutch was probably on setting 4, more suited to experienced drivers who were going flat out.
Am looking for advice on what setting l should switch to that would be more suitable for him (smoother gradual engagement).
any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers
Kev

Long time since I played with these but pretty sure you are on full hard setting 4.
You need setting 1 .full soft.
Mark the 'slot' on each shoe with the peg on the centre it engages with.
Take the clutch apart.
Turn each shoe over and engage the same 'slot' with the same peg and reassemble.
Clutch should look like image with shoes now trailing rather than leading
PS. Seems that the only 'legal' clutch for MSUK Honda cadet racing is now the Magnum but with heavy (undrilled) shoes and white springs as in my pic.

Hey, thanks for the reply, sorry about late response.. that sounds simple enough, I had a search on google but couldn't find anything showing me positions for each setting. I spoke to engine builder and he recommended setting 1, so will go with that. Someone showed me these (see photo's) as example so flipping over makes sense to go from setting 4 to 1..
Last pic is of the clutch on current setting (4 Ive been told)..
Cheers for your help.
Kev

You have it sorted. Just reassemble the clutch using slot 1 on the shoes giving the soft setting.
I am sure you and your driver will be much happier with it.
If for any reason ,you or others run the clutch the other way round with the sprocket outboard then shoe setting 4 becomes the soft setting and 1 the hard.
Cheers!
