TVKC Round 6

Struggling a bit for pace in testing but as usual dialled in during the 5 test sessions to get somewhere near things.

Line up for TQ and we go with 4 mins left..........feel a vibration as I turn into the loop and as I get to the top the right hand left wheel makes a break for the border...FFS.....not good as I need to win this and the last round to keep in the championship hunt.....so, TQ P32!

Onto Sunday
Revised plan of action, finish as Hugh up as possible to maximise chances in the final as its only thr final at TVKC that carries championship points.

Heat 1
I get a steady start but it takes a while for the tyres to come on fully andntheres so many racing for midfield positions it takes a while to clear them but we just keep pushing and finally come across the line in P11, that 21 places gained so happy with that.......downside.... got a bumper on lap2 when some weapon lunged the kart in front of me taking way too much kerb and went airborne as spun in front of me...luckily that only dropped me to P14 but an 11 would have been better.

Heat 2
Nudged up the pressure a little to see if we can get the wagon hossing a bit earlier. Rolled around for the start and it was abysmal, 4 kart length gaps in multiple places at the start and they let it go so time to crack on.

Gotta say, absolutely smashed the 1st 2 laps coming across the line in P14 after 2 laps ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿš€ so now could settle down to try and reel in the front runners.

At the flag I'd got up to P9 or 8 maybe but after penalties I was promoted to P5....which was sweet.

Intermediate classifications were not published until we were all standing on thr grid waiting as there had been a bunch of clerks visit but I ended up P9, would have been better a row or 2 higher but we can do something from there hopefully.

Final
So goal was to win but now it was to finish above Ben who was going off P3 and this would be difficult.

We go and I start to move forward but 2 drivers decide they want to race for P7 so that takes a few laps to get rid of them as they just keep going back in. Really frustrating as we were coming st the front 3 and as soon as we were nearly there they'd do a stupid move and double to gap to them again.
Anyway, I got myself some space to try and close down the lead group and was doing it just not quick enough now as has a 2s gap to them. It was with 2 laps to go that they started fighting and the P2 guy got spat out at hairpin 1 and that had brought me to within 1 second of them going onto the last lap.
Unfortunately Ben used his head and didn't fight for the lead and just took the P2 points and I took the flag in P3.

Technically things are still possible as if I win the last round and Ben finishes p4 or lower we are tied on points. I'll have more wins and I think we have the same poles in TQ so not sure how it would be decided etc.

2024 TVKC CHAMPION

So the 2024 championship came down to the last meeting....the last final of the year as thats the only race that carries championship points.

After last month's nightmare where I lost another point to my main competition the figures and championship were as follows;

I had to win the final and the main competition had to finish P4 or lower.

If I did this we would tie on points which would mean tie-breaker rules needed to be applied as we would be equal on points and pole positions so it would come down to who finished higher in this final.

TQ
I'd been struggling for pace all Saturday as, basically I was **** away from the week at work having come off an 18 hour Wednesday then back-to-back on track driver training days Thursday and Friday........and so it was I ended up qualifying P18...far from ideal.

Saturday night I needed a reset so went out with my mechanic and got away from karting, no usual kart strip and prep.....just a few drinks and head down.

Sunday
Heat 1 - So P18 start and needed to get a decent finish to prepare for the main event in the final.
the lights went and we got going but it was a very scrappy race but managed to bring it home in P4 so not bad.

Heat 2 - Got a great start and made up something like 8-10 places on 1st lap so much closer to the front group and took the flag in P3.

This gave me 7 points in the intermediate classification which put me top equal with 2 other drivers for pole but as my TQ was poor it meant that I lined up on P3.
The only saving grace was the main competition was having a bit of a nightmare round and had a final starting position lower than me.

Final
We started and I got away with the front pack and after 3 or 4 laps took the lead but there was a train of karts on my bumper so I had to defend and hope that I'd get the chance to break but before this happened I got a blocking warning so at thr next corner had to move aside otherwise I'd have got an in race time penalty and as expected the train went through.
I kept in the front 3 for the next few laps, pulling a few moves to try to take the lead which swapped between thr 3 drivers and with 2 laps to go I got in to P2 and went to catch the leader but ran out of time and took the flag in P2...........gutted but there was the outside chance that the driver who won may come under scrutiny by the clerks for a questionable move which sent the, then leader, off at the chicane....and so it was time to wait.

scruitineering was completed without incident then it was time to count down the clock to see if anyone was called and then 4 drivers were called, including me and the winner.
I went and was informed that I was a victim in an on track incident so I asked if I needed to be there as I wasn't interested in getting anyone penalties and was allowed to leave....so waiting time again and keeping an eye on the results....40 minutes later the results updated and showed me in P1

Really not the way I wanted to win but on the flip side I was taken out in Rounds 1 & 2 on the penultimateap when i was leading by the same driver so it could have been some Ying to the Yang I experienced in those rounds.

1st time back to TVKC in 3 years and my 4th Championship Title there equalling the most won titles at TVKC by any driver since it started.

Big thanks to Jack Dex JDR for the support over the years, to MS Kart for always providing a fast strong chassis, to Time Racing Engines for always ensuring the best possible power and to ARC Audio Visual for backing me since I was a cadet. Without these relationships I couldn't do what I love and I'm eternally grateful.

HKRC PENULTIMATE ROUND
Going into this round it was time to try and secure good championship points as its close again, 4 points in my favour.

Testing went OK on Saturday and random heats Sunday.

Heat 1 P1 > P2 as I got lunged at turn 1 which pushed me back to P4 and once I'd cleared P2 & P3 the leader had got a gap and although our times were similar the gap was already there so had to roll off and save the tyres.

Heat 2 P32 > P10 Goal was to get as high up as possible as the main competition only scored a P21 in the 1st heat and it's all about those points. Just went to work and came over the line in P10 which was OK.

Final
Really wanted a win in this one so wanted to ensure that we kept in touch with the pole guy but had to fike in behind the P2 guy at turn 1 and then he defended for a lap which let the pole guy stretch a gap.......luckily there was a battenburgh flag which closed everyone up again but P2 missed the boat when the leader bolted and again there was a gap and the P2 guy repeated his defending so with 4 laps to go I went by the P2 guy and then just drove half defensive for the rest of the race to secure the position and points.
Shame I didn't get the win but overall objective achieved to stretch the points gap and now it's something like 18-19 point lead going into the final round next month.
