My name is Lee Allonby. I am 30 and I am a Vehicle Mechanic in the British Army. I race karts for the Army in the Armed Forces Karting Championship.
I took an interest in karting at the age of around 14 after some arrive and drives as a child, I would always win and never really understood how but the natural rwcecrwft was always there, sadly I never pursued karting further until a lot later in life. In 2014 I saw a flyer in work for trials for the Army Karting Team and decided to check it out. I was successfully enrolled onto the team after scoring well against other triallists at an arrive and drive event and then put through my paces in an Army pro kart over several times sessions at Clay Pigeon.
In 2016 my operational commitments reduced massively thus enabling me to concentrate on motorsports, and so I spent my first year racing as a novice under MSUK regulations with the Army Team, gaining experience of effective racing techniques, becoming used to endurance racing with a 3 hour race split between 2 or 3 drivers and also developing racecraft against the biggest pro kart grid in the country, with around 40 other drivers competing at any one time.
I have now completed my fourth season as an endurance driver and at the end of 2019 I felt that I was ready to move up to the Premier category in the Armed Forces Championship. This involves sprint racing in senior rotax karts, as opposed to endurance racing in the 4 stroke Pro karts.
I have recently bought an Otk Kosmic Mercury from 2016 with a revolution racing prevo engine. This has been great for introducing me to Rotax throughout this year and practicing on, but I am next looking to rebuild a new chassis which I have picked up and hope to fit an evo engine to it ready to race with next year.
In 2021 I'm happy to announce that I will be racing under the banner of the REME Corps Karting Team.
Our series sees us race at 6 events through the season, located all around the country so nationwide exposure can be achieved through different levels of sponsorship starting at a low cost. Plus there are added advantages to sponsoring a military driver.
Please check out my Facebook page and Instagram profile for more information.
Feel free to DM me if you would like to offer support for my race season this year or for the REME Karting Team in their endurance series. Thank you
