Newbie alert! Just bought my son a Honda cadet and need to change the clutch for different gearing for Bayford meadows. Couldn’t see anywhere online, can anyone tell me if it has a reverse thread on the shaft for the main nut? Also if anyone knows what rear sprocket to use for Bayford, that would be much appreciated. Been told 72?
Cheers!

Hi Craig welcome to the forum!

In all honesty I don't know, as I don't know anybody personally who is running a Cadet at Bayford. However on the Honda Cadet website it states Gearing Guide: 20/75 to 20/78 for Bayford.

I'm sure however if you email Ian (info@bmkr.co.uk) then he can confirm a good ballpark gearing ratio to go for. And of course having a nose around on a test day or race day most people will be happy to give you some pointers.

Best bet is find a starting point and then find out what works best for you guys. In Rotax 177 for example, people are running gearing from an 85 to an 88 it seems.

Sorry I couldn't be anymore help! :cry:

If you see me about at Bayford, pop by and say hello and grab some stickers! :D(y)

Hi there, the clutch securing nut is not reverse thread. An impact gun or a clutch locking tool will aid removal. You can make a DIY locking tool with a bit of old metal and some nuts and bolts.
As for gearing, this is a reasonable start guide;
"Circuit Gearing" http://www.ethanackroyd.co.uk/gearing/gearing.htm

Remember, this is where practice comes into its own and you can see which gearing suits you best. Go up/down a tooth at a time to see if lap times improve, and make a note it for each track.
You could also ask others that are testing, most will be happy enough to share what they're running during testing.
