Hi all. Apologies in advance for this post, I am sure it has been asked many times before!

My son is just getting into karting (currently indoor rental). He is about to join the indoor rental academy program and would like a helmet for Christmas. I have been having a browse and it looks like there are lots of options at this this level but if he goes onto outdoor racing he might need a helmet with a snell rating?

We cannot afford a really expensive helmet and, also, it is early days in his karting.

My question is, should i buy something which suits now or future proof and go for a snell rated helmet. If I do go for a snell rated helmet is there one which is good but not crazy expensive? Thanks

Depends how old he is and how quickly you may go outdoors as his head will grow etc.

If you want to cover off the possibility of going msuk racing then just make sure the helmet is CMR rated, for kids, it'll be lighter etc.
All the main brands do them, arai, bell, still, zamp, omp, koden and so on.zsmp and koden are cheaper and if the helmet meets the standard it'll only be name and visor mechanism etc that may be cheaper, not as polished.
Main thing is get one that fits correctly, not one that is the make or model that is preferred.....a bad fitting expensive lid is much worse than a cheaper CMR rated correctly fitting helmet.
