Recently had rotax Evo engine seize. Engine has been repaired. When trying to start it the wiring to the starter motor got hot and small amount of smoke. Removed starter from engine and tried with no load, and nothing happened.

We have since bought a new wiring loom, battery and starter motor.

Attempted to run starter yesterday again out of the engine with no load and we are still not getting anything.

Apart from a new ECU has anybody any advice/help to give as to what we could be doing wrong or has anybody had this before???

Hi there, I'm an electronic engineer by trade but have some knowledge of car wiring but not karts, however if you had a circuit diagram of your wiring loom and a device to measure Voltage and Current I could perhaps try my best to help, is a diagram or your wiring loom readily available on the internet and do you have some kind of Voltage tester?

Your text would imply that all was ok prior to the engine seize, was the original loom damaged?

Regards

Hi, unsure whether anything happened to the loom when the engine seized. Unsure if trying to restart it at the time pulled too much current and fried something.
Voltage wise we have checked the battery as it is new and giving around 13v. I believe karts will still start with the voltage as low as 11v.
I cannot find a diagram anywhere but they are quite simple. I am confused as unsure if the ECU has any play until the engine is running as there is a direct supply from the battery that goes to the starter relay and then to the starter motor. Just confused now.

It is viable that after the original engine seizure that that starter motor drew too much current as the engine would not crank due to the piston being stuck in the bore, have you done a continuity check of the 12 V from the battery, its also worth checking the 12V to earth on resistance to check the 12 v is isolated.

you are welcome to give me a call if you would like, but a electrical diagram would be good, what kart is it and what loom, Ill have a look

It is a Kosmic kart around and it's a rotax Evo junior. Thanks
