Hi All,

so I’m actually a late bloomer to the karting scene, starting in hire karts at bayford meadows. It took literally 2 practice days and 1 race day in hire karts before I bought 2 go karts off a friend (a big leap I admit). Having seen the competition in BMKR, I decided to use the karts I had to practice as much as possible to get my times to within a couple of seconds of the race pace. To get my race craft up I entered the hire kart championship at Bayford Meadows coming 8th overall in my first year with a second place in round 4. I’ve carried this on for the last two years becoming a more consistent driver and a better racer, whilst also doing owner driver practice days and the occasional marshaling.

roll on to 2022 and I’ve decided that this is my year to go for it….3 championships this year

Bayford Meadows super pro 270 - my social event for the month that I don’t have to take too seriously anymore.
club 73 - my way of getting to other tracks in the country and competing with a broader range of ability racers
BMKR max 177 - the end goal…the life dream…. What all the work has been for.

results so far
superpro - 4th overall
club 73 - 6th overall (I expect this won’t last too long considering my two best tracks are now done with)
max 177 - 11th overall (I’m no longer last 😂)

here’s a bunch of images of my journey so far

Well done the other day fella, it's hard going out there! A steep learning curve for sure.

Nice story, great to see the progression through the ranks. I guess you're loving it in the Rotax? :p(y)

Nice one mate - hoping I can follow in your steps and jump out of rental karts as quick as you did :D

Loving the kart as well!

Tried to sub to your YT channel but gives me an error

If you type in “kart lap comparison” I should be the top one, youtube name is DD kart racing

I still love racing in rentals as it’s stress free But the first time you go out in a two stroke it really is another level

2022 - Superpro rd 2
Now truth be told although I treat this more as a social event for the month it’s hard not to at least try and be competitive when the helmet goes on…with being the heaviest in class and only being off the next heavyweight class by only 0.3kg I decided to get myself weighed in again to see if I can change to the heavier class (thus making me the lightest 😁) however turns out I’ve lost weight 😂 meaning the middleweight class is where I’m staying.

I asked to be put into the first few races as I had parenting duties later on.

Race 1 - qualified 4 overall which was a bit of a shock considering the class of drivers and the fact the kart was very tail happy, I got a slow start off the line as was quickly over taken by 5th place but thanks to setting myself up well for the back straight I was quickly able to take the position back which I held for the rest of the race finishing 4th overall with a 3rd in class.

Race 2 - qualified 4th again and thanks to back up the pack (a trick I employ a lot in the superpro) I let the guys behind me fight whilst I made a getaway, I was fine with the top 3 getting away from me as they were faster guys anyway…but wait…3 laps to the end I notice I’m reeling in 3rd place…maximum effort for those last laps which end almost photo finish for 3rd place. Unfortunately my sandbagging in The opening stages meant I lost out on the third place, I did take third in class though which ain’t to bad considering my fast ass is the heaviest in the class.

Race 3 - qualified 3rd this race with two lightweights in front of me - I use my traditional sandbagging approach to cause fighting behind me which works a treat however 4th place didn’t have none of it and followed me as I pulled away….damn it, not ideal at all I fought him off for a few laps before I finally managed to break free of him finishing 3rd overall and first place in class landing me with a 4th in class for the round 2 of this event.

My series this season is unfortunately compromised by the fact that I’m the heaviest in the class. But as this is just a bit of fun it’s just nice to get out and race with friendly people in a stress free environment. I’d recommend this series to anyone who loves karting as the atmosphere is great and everyone is friendly

Thanks for reading

I’m actually fortunate to not have broken one yet 😂, owner driver as a privateer can be so stressful (even though it’s the most rewarding) so these little championships are nice to work on things like race craft and because I’ve battled my way to the sharp end of the grid it’s actually nice to be fighting for podiums, this is not something I’ll ever see in owner driver

Ahh never put a downer on your journey towards the top fella. Racing is a crazy game and all can be lost or won on the first or last corner. Never give up! (y):D

Did you get your stickers?

Keep working at it, self belief and focus are key.......keep those and keep learning and who knows what you'll achieve in time 👌
