My son has spent the last season racing in a rental club championship for juniors and wants to move to owner karting. We are scratching our heads a little on the best way forward as, from what we can understand, the regs have changed recently and so there is some change in the classes that are being run and many of the karts advertised for sale do not seem to be compatible with these regs. I was hoping someone on the forum could help me understand:
- If we put our 11 year old, 41kg, in the cadet class will he be far too big/heavy/old for it compared to the other kids?
- Could we buy a 2021 900 chassis with a Honda GX160 engine and then fit a blue sealed GX200 Cadet to it easily? Are the engine mounts the same? Would this be legal to race in the Honda Cadet class?
- Could the above kart then be used in a Honda Inter class if the engine was changed/modified accordingly? Are Honda Inter classes still commonly run or are they hard to find?
We ideally don't want to stick him into higher-power junior/inter classes just yet as he only has one season under his belt and our thinking is that by doing the local club owner championship he would be able to get a bit of experience using robust kit that wasnt too expensive...
If any has any thoughts on the above it would be very helpful! Thanks.
