"Each week we are speaking to our 2019 Champions and ask them some all important questions to see what makes them tick.

Next up is 2019 X30 Junior Champion โ€“ Oliver Gray

How did you get started in the sport?

I started via corporate karting. My friend took me to Buckmore Park for a taster session and my passion grew from there. I spent most Sunday mornings at Brentwood karting with Manager Dan Lee. Dan entered me into the EasyKart competition to win a kart and entry into the National Series, it was held at Whilton Mill and I won. I was then heading round the country and my passion grew. I won the Cadet Championship in 2016 and was moved to Super One in 2016/2017.

What was the highlight of your title winning year?

Winning my first ever British Kart Championship final at Larkhall in Round 6 guided by Shaun Carter and DHR. I git the win with a last lap manoeuvre on Tom Lebbon.

What was your low point last season?

There wasnโ€™t really a major low point in the BKC season, I was reasonably consistent throughout the year wit ha strong 2nd half. However, the major low point was at the IAME World Finals in Le Mans where I was leading with less than a lap to go and my engine seized.

Why do you enjoy competing in Karting and the BKC?

For karting it is definitely the thrill of racing, the speed and winning when I can. The BKC is the premier UK series and I was racing against the best Junior X30 drivers in the UK so achieving the title made me proud.

Whatโ€™s your favourite circuit?

Rowrah undoubtedly! Despite not having the best weekend in the BKC, the combination of corners and plenty of overtaking chances make for great racing.

Who has been your toughest rival?

In 2019 my friend Caden McQueen who pushed me all year in the BKC and Kart Masters. Also, Ollie Bearman was a strong rival in the first half of the season.

When we do get underway, what are your hopes for the new season?

Iโ€™ve been racing with LeClerc by Lennox racing in OK Senior before the season came to a halt. My plans were always to do some BKC rounds and this might be the plan for the whole season now.

Due to the delayed start to the season what are you planning on doing with this unexpected time off from racing?

Keeping my strength and fitness up has been key with virtual training sessions with my trainer. Iโ€™m also doing a lot of sim racing with many or my competitors.

We wish Oliver and everyone in the BKC well. Stay safe and look after each other. We will be back in action before you know it #StayOnTrack
